Benchmarking

Energy StarThe New York City Local Law 84 mandates all covered buildings (since May 1, 2011) that exceed 50,000 gross square feet and all city buildings (since May 1, 2010) that exceed 100,000 gross square feet to benchmark their energy (Electricity, natural gas, fuel oil, and steam) and water use on a yearly basis no later than every May first.

Energy Management Consulting Group assists building and business owners with energy benchmarking service which is a first crucial step for any effective energy management plan. The first step is to use the data we collect to rank the facility, and as a benefit generate the initial energy performance (baseline) of the facility that can be used to track any improvements over time. We use the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, an interactive energy management tool developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that tracks energy and water consumption across an entire portfolio of buildings in a secure online environment.

The EPA's Portfolio Manager Tool is used to record the previous 12 months of energy consumption as well as the building operational characteristics, and then ranked by the EPA's National Energy Performance Rating System. A score between 0-100 is provided with 75 percent or higher for any building to qualify for ENERGY STAR Certification.
